Norwich Police arrest four in drug raid

NORWICH – Four Norwich residents were arrested Thursday after the Norwich Police Department executed a search warrant at 14 Sheldon Street in the City of Norwich.

The NPD, assisted by members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Department including the Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit, executed the search warrant after a month-long investigation and surveillance of the location in conjunction with the sale of marihuana. The investigation began after the police received information from neighbors reporting that numerous people were coming and going from the house during all hours of the day.

No injuries were sustained during the execution of the search warrant, which was conducted by the Norwich Police Department entry team.

The search of the property yielded marijuana and Schedule II narcotics, which are generally prescription drugs. An undisclosed amount of U.S. currency was also found.

Four people were arrested during the execution of the search warrant.

• Richard L. Shepard, 21, of 14 Sheldon Street, Norwich, was charged with fourth degree criminal sale of marijuana and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance – both class A misdemeanors – second degree criminal nuisance and sixth degree conspiracy – class B misdemeanors – and unlawful possession of marijuana – a violation. Shepard was held in lockup overnight, awaiting a morning arraignment.
