Norwich 14U softball team off to 4-0 start

NORWICH – Norwich’s 14-and-under girls’ softball team is off to a perfect start in the Oneonta Summer League winning all four of its games this month.

The team is comprised of nine modified players, who were a perfect 9-0 this past season, two junior varsity players, and two Little League players.

Playing an eight-game schedule, Norwich started its season June 14 with a doubleheader sweep of Sidney, 7-5, and Oneonta, 15-14.

Ashley Campbell earned the win over Sidney striking out six and going 2-for-3 with a run scored. The offense was backed up by Jamie Berger, who was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Destinie Holmquist and Dominique Piro each had a hit and a run scored.

Molly Moore pitched the last inning to seal the win, and Breanna Cashman made a difficult over-the-shoulder outfield catch as the defensive highlight of the game.

In the second game against Oneonta, Norwich got off to a slow start trailing 13-3 entering the bottom of the fourth.

Norwich began its rally scoring six in that inning starting with a walk to Piro, followed by four consecutive singles from Holmquist, Alyssa MacIntosh, Morgan Loucks, and Victoria Trask. The inning was closed up with a single by Moore and a double by Berger.
