Published: June 25th, 2008

NORWICH – YMCA of the USA and Huggies Little Swimmers, a product of the Kimberly-Clark Corporation, have awarded the Norwich Family YMCA a $1,000 grant to enhance its parent-child swim outreach initiatives for the Chenango County area.

The gift is one of 100 grants of $1,000 each awarded by Huggies Little Swimmers to YMCAs across the country to initiate or enhance the YMCA Parent/Child Aquatic Enrichment Program – designed for children from 6 to 36 months old – in underserved and/or previously un-reached populations. Specifically, the Norwich Family YMCA will be coordinating efforts with Chenango Memorial Hospital to offer a free parent-child swim session to each baby born at Chenango Memorial Hospital between July 2008 and July 2009.

“The Norwich Family YMCA is very excited to be one of the one hundred YMCA’s chosen to receive this national grant. This will be an excellent opportunity to partner with Chenango Memorial Hospital to offer a very important program that will promote the parent and child, the importance of healthy activities, the importance of water safety, and the introduction of a life long sport/exercise in swimming,” stated YMCA Executive Director Jamey Mullen.
