Middle school presents spring concert

NORWICH – Wednesday evening the Norwich Middle School Music Department presented its 2008 spring concert in the high school auditorium.

The concert opened with a performance by the NMS Jazz band under the direction of Julie Solomon. The Jazz Band performed the Bob Lowden arrangement of “Gospel John,” “Niobe” by Vince Gassi and “Caravan,” a Duke Ellington, Irving Mills and Juan Tizol chart arranged by Michael Sweeny. The NMS Jazz Band and the Norwich High School Jazz Bands will be performing at 5:20 and 6:20 p.m., Thursday, June 5 in the Sherburne-Earlville High School auditorium.



Following the Jazz Band was the Norwich Middle School String Ensemble under the direction of Mark D. Sands. The NMS String Ensemble performed “Appalachian Sunrise” by Doris Gazza and “March of the Meistersingers,” written by Richard Wagner and arranged by Sandra Dackow.

The Middle School Band, under the direction of Amy B. Rogers performed “Adagio for Winds,” by Larry Daehn and “Carpathia,” by William Ownes.

The middle school band will be performing in the Sherburne Pageant of Bands Middle School Concert Band Competition at 11:20 a.m., June 7.
