Sex offender accused of endangering child

NORWICH – A Norwich man was arrested Friday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police investigated an incident that allegedly occurred in the Town of Pharsalia.

According to Chenango County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Richard Cobb, the Sheriff’s Department arrested James F. Smith, 27, Front Street, Norwich, after investigating a call that came in to an abuse hotline. The Chenango County Department of Child Protective Services assisted with the investigation. The Sheriff’s Department allegedly discovered Smith had committed acts which “endangered the moral, physical and mental welfare” of a six-year-old child.
