UV's spring concert Tuesday night

NEW BERLIN – The lights will dim at 7:01 p.m., Tuesday in the Unadilla Valley High School auditorium as music students serenade the crowd for the last time this school year

Under the direction of band instructor Paul Hudson and choir instructor Meredith Hudson, middle and high school students get the evening started with songs from Star Wars and Titanic. They will strut their stuff as they play Canto, The Forge of Vulcan and the Empire State Salute.

Not every district has a husband and wife team to head up the band and choir and not every district has such capability to allow students to sing and play instruments hand-in-hand. Eleven band/chior members take one 90 minutes class period during the day to pick up their instruments as well as carry a tune.

“We try to get students to do it all,” said Meredith.

The spring performance is the first formal one of the year, with eight seniors taking to the stage for the last time.

“The night will be memorable and more than likely will be filled with tears. It is always hard to see them perform for the last time,” said the choir director, adding how “excited” she is that many plan to major or minor in music in college.
