SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville’s never-say-die mentality yielded its third comeback win in the bottom of the seventh this season, Thursday against visiting Waterville.

Despite outhitting Waterville 13-3 in the game, the Marauders trailed by one run heading into its final at-bat. Francesco Magro led off with a single, her third hit in a perfect 3-for-3 day. Megan Record doubled and Magro scored on Brenda Hoefler’s basehit. Record came home with the winner after a Kate Fitzpatrick single.

The Marauders left eight runners on base and six in scoring position in the two innings it did not score. “We were getting some hits with two outs and we couldn’t put enough hits together at the right time until the end,” said S-E coach Scott Fitzpatrick. “This is a team that really digs down from the top to the bottom of the lineup. They really battle and they do not like to lose, plain and simple.”

The Marauders play at Waterville tonight and at the B-G tourney on Saturday.
