Man admits to two burglaries

NORWICH – A 19-year-old man accused of dual burglaries pleaded guilty to the charges against him Wednesday.

Lance Beckwith, Norwich, was sentenced by Supreme Court Justice Kevin M. Dowd for his role in the burglary of both his grandfather’s home and of Steel Sales Inc. in Sherburne.

In regards to the burglary at his grandfather’s home in North Norwich, the defendant said, “I was looking for drugs. I couldn’t find any. I found money and that worked.”

Although Beckwith told the court he could not remember all of the events that occurred on Oct. 20, 2007, he did recall that he and his friends broke into the Sherburne business and stole $625. “I don’t remember,” he said. “I know we took a bunch of stuff.”
