Greene 11, Whitney Point 6

GREENE – Trojans stopped a five-game winless streak to start the season besting Whitney Point Friday afternoon.

Dan Carlin went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI, and Nick Puglisi added a 3-for-4 day with a pair of ribbies. “The last three games we have hit it well and our defense is much better,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “The young kids are gaining confidence. They needed something positive to happen, and it did.”

Scott Gorton logged seven innings in a route-going win, his first on the varsity level. He scattered six Whitney Point hits. “We gave up four unearned runs on four errors, but we didn’t have a multiple-error inning to cost us more runs,” Coach Gorton said. “We were able to minimize the mistakes by making a play or Scott making a good pitch to get out of an inning.”
