State budget calls for troopers to stay in local schools

CHENANGO COUNTY – New York’s school districts will now keep the School Resource Officers program.

As part of his New York state budget, former Governor Eliot Spitzer planned to remove troopers from rural schools and re-locate them into more populated districts in the state. Governor David Paterson reinstated the budget item last week.

Locally, Greene, Oxford, Sherburne, Otselic Valley and Unadilla Valley school districts benefit from the program.
