Sherburne business to manufacture covered bridges

SHERBURNE – More than 48 people attended an open house celebration and helped to officially load a covered bridge Saturday in Sherburne.

Shawn and Kerry Kelly, owners of Kelly Paving, officially opened a new business, The Rainbow Bridge Company, last weekend, and many members of the community came out to show their support.

Shawn and Kerry unveiled their most recent bridge and asked those in attendance to help them load the bridge. Although an engineer had already examined the bridge and indicated that it could probably hold close to 18,000 pounds, Shawn and Kelly had the 48 people in attendance step on the scale and load onto the bridge. The bridge easily held the total weight of 9,757 pounds.

Shawn said the decision to make the covered bridges came after he and Kerry brainstormed ideas for a new business. “Ultimately, we decided to do this, and we both loved the idea,” Shawn said.
