Incumbents reign in village elections

CHENANGO COUNTY – Even though there was only a contest in one race during Tuesday’s elections, a number of voters turned out to support the candidates running for office in seven of the eight villages in Chenango County.

In Afton, the competition between incumbent Mayor Sally Muller and newcomer Solon “Stevie” Tsangaras ended in a victory for Muller. She was re-elected to the position by a vote margin of 74 to 20. Two incumbent trustees were also running for re-election. Girard Matthews received 82 votes and Michele Simonds got 66 votes. Village Justice Joseph Palumbo also ran unopposed. He took 87 votes.



Bainbridge voters cast 26 votes for Mayor Phillip Darling. Village Trustees Ola Tranvaag and Linda Noble received 25 and 26 votes respectively.

In Earlville, two village trustees ran for re-election. William Excell received 58 votes and Mark Doeberl took 59.

Elections in Greene included two open trustee positions and the post of village justice. Wayne Hartley and Morris Eccleston were unopposed candidates for the trustee spots. They took 27 and 26 votes, respectively. Dante Acunto was the sole candidate for village justice. He received 21 votes.
