New Berlin awaits word on fate of condemned building

NEW BERLIN – Less than a week after a downtown historic structure was condemned, village residents are still wondering what the next step may be.

Mayor Carol Riley says just by looking at the 2 N. Main St. structure, she could tell the south side of the building is starting to bulge and the windows look as though they are protruding.

“I called the Department of Transportation to see what could be done if the structure showed signs of collapsing,” Riley said.

Riley says if the building is going to come down she would like it to be done professionally and not just see it collapse on its own.
