CHENANGO COUNTY - The Chenango County Treasurer and Budget Office this month released 2008 tax rates per $1,000 of assessed valuation. Led by the Town of Norwich with a decrease of 14.8 percent next year, the following municipalities’ taxes will also be less:

Afton, $13.83, down 94 cents, or 6.4 percent.

Coventry, $11.94, down 68 cents, or 5.4 percent.

McDonough, $12.68, down 53 cents, or 4 percent.

Town of Norwich, $19.39, down $3.37, or 14.8 percent.

Oxford, $14.95, down 33 cents, or 2.1 percent.

Pharsalia, $15.10, down 47 cents, or 7.5 percent.

Smithville, $13.73, down 90 cents, or 6.1 percent.
