Police discover over $6,000 in drugs following a routine traffic stop

NORWICH – Sheriff’s deputies on patrol discovered thousands of dollars worth of drugs hidden in a couple’s car following a traffic stop.

Friday at about 12:52 p.m., deputies pulled over a 1996 Ford Explorer traveling along county Route 32 in the Town of Norwich because the operator was known not to have a license.

Following the traffic stop, police arrested Shane M. and Stephanie L. Manwarren, both 26, of 274 Fusch Road in the Town of Columbus. Police searched the vehicle and seized marijuana and pills from the false bottom of a Red Bull can. The Sheriff’s Office said the canister had been specifically designed to prevent its detection from law enforcement. Police also seized four ounces of powdered cocaine from the vehicle worth over $6,400.
