B-G falls to Unatego in MAC finals rematch

Unatego 45, B-G 39

BAINBRIDGE – In a rematch of last year’s MAC title game, Unatego returned to favor to the Bobcats avenging that last-season defeat with a six-point victory Thursday.

Unatego saw a 23-9 first-half lead dwindle to six points in the fourth quarter before prevailing. “It’s a whole different group for us and we were struggling a little defensively and offensively in the first half,” said B-G coach Bob Conway. “We picked it up in the second half. For many of our kids, it was the first varsity game they played.”

Dani Conway led B-G with 15 points and Mariah Schaeffer added 11. The Bobcats (0-1) host Sidney Tuesday.

Greene 54, Harpursville 39

GREENE – Greene scored nine straight points in the second quarter to grab a seven-point halftime lead, and stretched the lead to 13 with a strong third quarter.

Barb Borst had seven in the third stanza and Liz Wentlent six markers as the Trojans extended a seven-point halftime lead to 44-31. “We switched to a halfcourt man defense and got a couple of steals,” said Greene coach Bill Case of the Trojans’ surge. “Harpursville played well, but our defense was super and we had good shot selection.”

Borst led Greene with 19 points, five steals, and four blocked shots. Megan McDermott added 18 points and eight rebounds, and Wentlent had 10 points.
