Pressure defense keys S-E win

Girls’ Basketball

S-E 65, Ilion 37

SHERBURNE – Making Ilion play faster than it wanted to, Sherburne-Earlville forced over 20 turnovers and had 16 steals to win its opening game of the season Tuesday.

Senior Courtney Kurtz had 14 points, seven rebounds, and six steals for the Marauders, and Megan Record added 13 points. “When you have 16 steals that says it all,” said S-E coach Jeff Barry. “We scored a lot of points off turnovers; it was our kind of game.”

The Marauders stretched a 16-point halftime lead to as many as 26 in the third quarter including an 11-0 run in which Kurtz hit a pair of jumpers and Karli Harris capped the salvo with one of her three three-pointers.
