County sets hearing for 2008 budget

NORWICH – County lawmakers spent no time discussing next year’s tentative budget at a meeting of the full Board of Supervisors Nov. 13, and simply set the date for a public hearing.

The public hearing will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27 in the Supervisor’s Chambers on the third floor of the County Office Building, 5 Court St., Norwich. Supervisors are scheduled to adopt the 2008 budget the following day.

The average tentative county tax rate would drop 25 cents, or $15.83 from the current $16.08 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The tax effect will fluctuate, either increasing or decreasing, in all 22 municipalities because of state-established equalization rates. (See sidebar.)
