Santa's igloo on its way to downtown

The Business Improvement District is working hard to guarantee that Santa will return to downtown Norwich this year, and several community members are helping out. On Wednesday afternoon, Dr. Michael Waters and firefighter Tracy Chawgo volunteered their time to help paint the igloo panels that will make up Santa’s cottage. Gary Brightman, Burrell Excavating and the Norwich Career Firefighters are working in collaboration with the BID on the project. The cottage will be placed in Norwich’s East Side Park. According to Pegi LoPresti, executive director of the BID, Santa’s cottage should be complete by the end of the week. Santa will appear in the cottage for the first time after the Festival of Lights parade on Saturday, Nov. 24. Although the cottage will soon be complete, the BID still needs the support of the local community to pay for the project. Donations can be sent to Norwich BID, P.O. Box 1127, Norwich, NY 13815. The BID is a 501C3 corporation, so all donations are tax deductible.
