Trojans embark on state playoff run

GREENE – Greene field hockey coach Sue Carlin, the last Chenango County mentor still coaching in the 2007 campaign, went on the road Thursday to take a peek at her team’s next opponent in the state quarterfinals this Saturday at 5 p.m. at Oneonta State.

Carlin is guiding a Trojans team that is coming off its second straight Section IV, Class A championship, and will face Williamsville North of Section VI. Carlin made the long scouting trip to Amherst to watch its next opponent defeat Penfield of Section V. “They have some good kids and it’s going to be a great game,” Carlin said Thursday evening. “If we play our game, we should be okay.”

The Trojans have settled in since its weekend title celebration, and have gone about their business in routine-like fashion, even though there was the uncertainty of not knowing who they would play. “At this point in the season, we need to play well,” Carlin said. “No matter who you play, you have to do all the little things right that you’ve prepared for all year.”
