NHS field band hosts home show Saturday

NORWICH – As the end of the season nears, Norwich Purple Tornado field band members are gearing up for their home show this Saturday.

Scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., the 34th Fall Festival of Bands – one of the oldest shows in the conference – will take center stage under the lights of Ulrich Field and offer a night full of music and entertainment.

Roughly 60 Norwich field band students will strut their stuff along with five other bands from across the state on the high school’s new artificially-surfaced field.

Vestal, Union Endicott, Johnstown, West Moreland and Johnson City will compete for the large-school division win, while Norwich will be the only school in its division.

Norwich Brass Instructor Paul Cullen says he came into the season not knowing much about the band’s previous years and said at first it was a challenge. However, he says he’s adapted and the band has hit their stride.

Cullen says he is proud of this year’s accomplishments but the end of the road is not here yet.
