Brown to appear in court today

NORWICH – Accused murder Daniel Brown Jr. will be appearing in Chenango County Court before newly appointed Broome County Court Judge Martin E. Smith to enter his plea at 1:30 p.m. today. Brown is being represented by John D. Cameron of the Chenango County Public Defender’s Office.

Brown is accused of murdering and raping his apartment manager, Tammy L. Periard, who was reported missing on Monday, March 26. Two days later police arrested Brown after finding Periard’s body in his apartment.



Brown 45, of 56 Henry St., has been indicted on two counts of first degree murder (Class A felony), second degree murder (Class A felony), first degree rape (Class B felony), first degree assault (Class B felony) and two counts of first degree robbery (Class B felony).

Supreme Court Justice Kevin M. Dowd recused himself after County Court Judge Howard Sullivan also removed himself from the case. Both judges had previously worked with the family of the victim in their private practices, years earlier.
