Norwich 6, Oxford 2

NORWICH – Norwich went error-free its first time on the field this season, and dealt unbeaten Oxford its first loss in four starts this season.

“I was somewhat concerned,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “Usually the first time out, you make a lot of errors on the field and on the bases. We didn’t make any errors.”

Luke Hinlicky pitched 4 1-3 innings for the victory and had 2 2-3 innings of scoreless relief from Mike Moon. Hinlicky doubled in Shane Thompson with the first run, and scored on Amos Parry’s single for the 2-0 lead in the first frame.

Freshman Paddy Law made a big impact in his first varsity game stroking a two-out, two-strike double in the fourth to score Josh Wales and Patrick Coates. Wales and Hinlicky each finished with two hits, and Parry added two RBI. “We jumped on them early and never stopped fighting at the plate,” Martinson said. “We played a sound game and the pitching was outstanding.”

Norwich hosts Whitney Point today.
