14-year-old charged with attempted murder

NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department has made yet another surprising arrest within the city, only days after charging a man with murder in an unrelated crime. Fourteen-year-old Ty A. Tumminia, Norwich, has been charged with second-degree attempted murder. While police initially declined to identify the boy, his name was released by Chenango County Court early this morning; Tumminia will be tried as an adult.

“Police initially responded to a 9-1-1 call Sunday and once there they discovered an adult female unconscious. While attending to the female’s injuries, the 14-year-old male left the residence, taking a car parked in the driveway,” said Norwich Police Chief Joseph Angelino. Police said the victim did live with her attacker in a south-side city residence, but declined to confirm their relationship.

A Norwich Fire Department Ambulance took the female victim to the emergency room at Chenango Memorial Hospital Sunday night. She has since been released and is expected to fully recover.

This is sad.
It doesn't say what he did to her. Did he hit her or choke her, or what? Did he make the 9-1-1 call? The name of the woman is a mystery as is their relationship too. I have to assume that information is being with-held for the court case.
I have a son about that age. He certainly wouldn't be mentally prepared to be living with a woman, in a "questionable situation" nor would he be allowed to take the car. (He sometimes forgets to eat lunch.) I await to hear if Ty has a parent/legal guardian and...
what the heck were they thinking?!
This boy Ty is a boy full of hormones (and probably pimples like most kids his age); not ready to grow up, let alone be tried as an adult. I hope they do a full psychological review. What he did is awful and wrong, but it's a really sad state of affairs and an ill reflection of what is now coming into Norwich.
