Sherburne goes green this weekend

SHERBURNE – The Village of Sherburne will be holding its annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 2 p.m., Sunday. The parade will start behind the Sherburne Fire Station and proceed up North Main Street before disbanding at Lewis’ Restaurant.

“This year we have even more groups than last year,” said Theresa Mastro, one of the parade’s coordinators.

In the parade’s sixth year, almost 50 groups will be marching in the St. Patrick’s Day parade. According to Mastro, in the parade’s six years it has become an impressive family event. “Families come walk together in groups or decorate their pick-up trucks or wagons,” he said. “It’s a lot of fun to see all of the families together.”

This year, participants will be a mix of local businesses, families, fire departments, village officials and groups from as far away as Syracuse, Oneonta and Unadilla Valley. Some groups, like the City of Syracuse’s Highland Pipe Band, have been marching in the parade since year one, while many others have been newly recruited this year.
