S-E 33, Unadilla Valley 31

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville won the final six matches, and 215-pounder Chris Pike held on for a 7-6 win over Justin Sigler to give the Marauders a close dual meet win over Unadilla Valley Thursday on S-E’s senior recognition night.

The Storm, a qualifier for the Section IV dual meet tournament, established a big lead early getting pins from Greg DuVall (103), Tyler Peet (112), and Dennis Murphy (130).

S-E rallied receiving two forfeits, and a pin from John Posson (189). “This was a good win for us and lot of fans were there from both schools,” said S-E assistant coach Brian Hicks. “The UV coach is a Sherburne-Earlville graduate, so it was nice to have him in town, and we’d like to get this rivalry going again.”

The Marauders compete in the Section III Class B tournament Saturday at V-V-S.

S-E 51, Hamilton 31

HAMILTON – Sherburne-Earlville stifled Hamilton’s offense holding the Emerald Knights’ leading scorer without a point, while extending its unbeaten record to 19-0.

Wilson Rose scored all 16 of his points in the first half as S-E moved out to 30-13 lead. Jon Pinney added 10 in the second half to wind up with a game-high 18 markers. “We really felt we didn’t play with the defensive intensity that we should the past two games,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “We kind of made a point to get that back tonight.”
