SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville survived a stiff challenge to its unbeaten record blasting visiting Westmoreland in the fourth quarter to pull away for its 18th straight win this season.

Reserves Caleb Johnson and Garrett Porack were instrumental to an 18-1 run to start the fourth quarter that turned a one-point game into a blowout at the end. Johnson was faced with the task of guarding the Bulldogs’ Louis Szewcyzk, who had 18 points through three quarters. Johnson blanked his opponent in that quarter, while Porack chipped in six points off the bench.

Wilson Rose had 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead S-E, Jon Pinney scored 16, and Porack 10. “When you let teams hang around, bad things can happen,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “The target on our backs is huge being unbeaten and state-ranked. We’re everyone’s big game and Westmoreland came ready to play. We got big contributions from our bench and it was a good team win.”

S-E plays at Mt. Markham Monday.
