Boys’ Swimming
Norwich 93, S-E 69
NORWICH – Norwich head coach, Rick Marchant, who has piloted either the boys’ or girls’ teams since 1976 – sometimes both the same season – went out a winner in his final home meet.
Norwich captured all but two events for its second win over Sherburne-Earlville this season. “They are inexperienced (S-E), but they have a great group and will get better,” said Marchant.
Norwich won six of the first seven events getting two wins from Ryan Marchant, while Evan Wendt posted a 234.70 to win in diving. Cole Adams’ 51.68 easily won the 100 freestyle. Travis Thompson (500 free) and Christof Knappe (100 breaststroke) won for the first time this season for Norwich, and Dan Wenzel took the 100 backstroke. “This was our last home meet, and it was a chance to say goodbye to the seniors who started with me in seventh grade,” Marchant said.
Adams, Mike Delmonico, Ethan Hitchcock, Knapp, Ryan Marchant, Jared Nichols, Mark Ros, Kane Streichert, Thompson, and Wendt were seniors recognized prior to the meet along with team manager, Kerzia Hopson.
Wendt, incidentally, became the third Norwich diver in 15 years to qualify for the state swimming and diving meet last weekend at the Vestal Invitational. Wendt made the cut-off score for 11 dives totaling a 401.80.

Greene 106, Oneonta 79
ONEONTA – Greene rebounded from a 12-point deficit early on to win for the 12th time in 13 meets in a non-league win at Oneonta Tuesday.
Chris Osterwald continued his record-breaking season for Greene putting his time on the board with its first win of the day in the 50 freestyle. Osterwald came back in the diving competition to win in a record-breaking 267.90, one of the highest six-dive scores in Chenango County history.
“We were down 12 points after three evens, but I had complete confidence we would dig deep and come up with some great swims,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “That’s exactly what the kids did.”
Peter McCauley (100 free) and Zach Hennessey (100 breaststroke) provided key wins in the second half of the meet, and the Trojans captured the final two relays to win going away.
