COPES CORNERS – In a showdown of Tri-Valley League division leaders, Milford toasted the Raiders to the tune of a 38-17 halftime advantage to roll to a crossover division win Tuesday.

Ron Alston scored 16 for the Wildcats and Dan Baxter 14 in the win. “We knew we had to play at a new level of competitiveness and quickness with the ball tonight, and we didn’t do that,” said Raiders coach Bill Hartman. “We, as a team, did not communicate well on the floor.”

Dan Moreno led G-MU (8-4) with 12 points and Peter Schmidt added 11. The Raiders play at Edmeston Friday.

Greene 49, Delhi 48

GREENE – Mike Porter hit two free throws with .8 seconds remaining in the game to give Greene a one-point win over Delhi Tuesday.

Delhi, who had trailed since a first-quarter advantage, grabbed its only lead of the second half on Pat O’Connell’s baseline hoop with 20 seconds left.

“We were playing from in front most of the game, and I think we may have gotten a little lackadaisical in the fourth quarter,” said Greene coach Jeff Paske. “We relaxed, and I thought we could have done a better job closing them out.”

John Carlin scored all eight of his points in the second and Don Amell six helping the Trojans erase an early Delhi lead. Porter led Greene with 17 points.

Oxford 56, B-G 52

BAINBRIDGE – Oxford won its fourth straight game and held back B-G’s comeback bid in the second half Tuesday.

The Blackhawks led by as many as 12 in the second half, however, the Bobcats closed to within three points in the fourth quarter behind the scoring of senior Willie McGinnis. Steve Locke had two key baskets in the last stanza for Oxford to keep his club in the lead.

Kyle Smith sparked Oxford (7-6) off the bench scoring all seven of his points in the second quarter helping his club establish a seven-point halftime lead. “We let down a little on defense in the second quarter, and they scored some fast-break layups that hurt us,” said B-G coach Ben Nelson.

McGinnis matched his season high scoring 21 points to go with 13 rebounds. Ben Burdick had 14 to lead Oxford and Scott Seiler added 10.

HARPURSVILLE – Matt Potter scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the second quarter to lead UV past Harpursville Tuesday night.

After a sluggish first quarter, the Storm moved their three-point lead to 19 at halftime. “We pressed and got the ball inside,” said UV coach Matt Osborne. “It was nice to have everyone get in the game and be aggressive. We were pretty productive.”

Matt Harrington had 10 points off the bench for the Storm (8-5), who play at Delhi Friday.
