Sherburne names its Citizens of the Year

SHERBURNE – The Sherburne Historic Park Society has announced its choices for the 2006 Citizen of the Year Award.

According to Sherburne Town Historian Rose Wellman, “This prestigious award was initiated in the fall of 2004 as a continuing event each year to honor someone worthy of the designation.” Potential winners are local people, residing now or previously in the Town of Sherburne, who have contributed something to the community. They are nominated by someone also residing in the town. Judges from the Park Society, the Town Board and the Village make the final decision based on the nominations the receive.

In the award’s third year, the distinction has been granted to John and Betty McDaniel of The Sherburne News. “John and Betty have been synonymous with The Sherburne News for many years and have raised a fine family of children on a newspaper printer’s pay,” Wellman said. The McDaniels were unanimously chosen for the distinction.
