NORWICH – The City of Norwich passed a Garbage Ordinance July 18. Since then, they have been giving people time to comply with the ordinance, but time is up and if the neighborhood is not cleaned up, tickets will be issued.

At last week’s meeting of the common council, a Norwich resident brought up the garbage issue again during open forum, saying he lived across the street from a “junkyard.” The man, who had resided in Norwich for 62 years, asked the council to take action, saying “you can’t change people, but something has got to be done.”

The property the man was speaking of is just one of many that may be served with appearance tickets in the next few weeks. Codes Enforcement Officer Jason Lawrence, along with the rest of the city officials have been working to enforce the ordinance since it was adopted in mid-July.
