Sherburne-Earlville 36, Morrisville-Eaton 30

SHERBURNE – Danny Cleveland’s pin at 140 pounds gave Sherburne-Earlville momentum, and a pair of wins in the heavyweight ranks put a stamp on the Marauders’ dual meet victory Tuesday night.

Cleveland pinned Joe Vandee at 1:59, and just a year ago the pairing ended in a two-point decision for Cleveland. “We weren’t sure which way that match would go, but that’s a potential 12-point swing depending on which way it ends up,” said S-E assistant coach Brian Hicks.

John Posson (189) and Chris Pike (215) added wins – Posson by pinfall – and the Marauders benefited from a pair of forfeits. “We came through against a well-coached team, and we won all the matches we were supposed to win tonight,” Hicks said.

S-E is at Oneonta Friday.

Chenango Valley 62, Norwich 9

CHENANGO BRIDGE – Norwich gave up five forfeits to the Warriors, a margin too great to overcome against one of the burgeoning wrestling programs in the Southern Tier Athletic Conference.

Rick Reihl (135) won by decision for Norwich, and Josh Steward (189) pinned his CV opponent for the lone Tornado wins. “We kept the young guys out of the lineup and put them in JV matches to hopefully give them more mat time,” said Norwich coach Terry Hagenbuch. “It doesn’t do them any good going out and getting pinned in the first minute.”
