Norwich band wins another 1st on the way to the Dome

NORWICH – With only the championship show left, Norwich has made a comeback with its third straight win.

The field band conference show was held in Norwich Saturday, with seven bands competing.

The lone entry in small school division III was the Pride of Westmoreland earning 73.05. In small school division II, Johnson City Wildcats placed second with 76.20 and placing first was Johnstown Marching Sir Bills with 79.65.

In large school division II, Central Square Redhawk Regiment placed second with 85.30 and the Baldwinsville Bees placed first earning 85.80. Band Director Don Burke says these two bands have placed closely all season and the Syracuse Carrier Dome show should prove to be a very competitive event.

In small school division I, the New Hartford Spartans placed second with 86.70 and the Norwich Tornado earned first place with 87.75.

Following the performances was the drum major retreat, where the scores and trophies are handed out. On hand to help award the performers was Superintendent Gerard O’Sullivan and the entire board of education. Seniors were recognized and escorted down the track by their parents.

Congratulations to the Purple Tornado field show band!! I traveled over 300 miles to watch this competition. It brought tears to my eyes and chills to my spine to see such beautiful and talented young musicians. My favorites, Nancy and Colleen Monday, my nieces. Thank you for making me feel young again!
