Rainy weekend for New Berlin's Youth Days

NEW BERLIN – The local community and beyond did not let the weather stand in their way while celebrating the Youth Days celebration this weekend.

Youth Days was held in New Berlin on the Milford Academy field from Aug. 24-27. Due to rainy weather, Youth Days did not draw out the crowds as planned. Opening day when the sun was still out, so were the crowds. People took advantage of the midway special and enjoyed a night of rides, food and entertainment.

“We were affected by the rain, but the weekend was absolutely a lot of fun and we are looking forward to coming back in the years to come,” said Main Event Amusements owner Kevin Jankiewicz.

Jankiewicz and his crew provided the midway entertainment for the Youth Days celebration.

Although the rides were shut down early due to the weather Saturday, there were plenty of activities that were spared. Friday night was the Miss Youth Days Pageant held at the Unadilla Valley School.

The stage was lit with white lights and decorated with a man-made Eiffel Tower, balloons, flowers and stars. The auditorium was full with viewers as the three categories of beauty queens took the stage.

The first category was Little Miss Youth Days. First runner-up was Jacquline Smith, and coming in first place was Keana Schrag.

Junior Miss Youth Days was won by Samantha Reidenbach. Second runner up was Logann Dolan and first runner up was Lauren Sohne. All three girls said it was fun to be in the pageant.
