RSVP recognizes senior volunteers

NORWICH – Chenango County senior volunteers were recognized Saturday for lending a helping hand.

Seniors from around the county celebrated the 8th annual Retired & Senior Volunteer Program’s (RSVP) recognition breakfast at Studebaker’s Restaurant. There are over 400 volunteers in the program and 280 of them took part in the recognition celebration.

Partnered with roughly 37 work sites, the RSVP program strives to get volunteers to take part in a variety of activities. The program is designed to serve as the middle ground where volunteers and work sites can be matched accordingly.

“It’s all about connecting to people,” Opportunities for Chenango Executive Director Craig Cashman said.

There was a buffet breakfast followed by an award ceremony to announce the number of hours the volunteers completed during the year.

“The breakfast is one way that we can tell them how much they are truly appreciated,” RSVP Director Doreen Bates said.
