State Supreme Court candidate campaigns in Chenango

NORWICH – With support from his family, a number of local Republican party officials and members of the bar, Madison County Court Judge Dennis K. McDermott announced his candidacy for the 6th Judicial District.

A steady Wednesday afternoon rain greeted McDermott and his entourage of approximately 25 atop the Chenango County Courthouse steps. The Madison County judge enters the race for retired 6th district Justice William O’Brien’s seat against local attorney and Town of New Berlin Justice Elizabeth Garry. McDermott has been serving as acting justice, while Garry has unanimous support from the Chenango County Democratic Committee for the position.

McDermott spoke to the crowd both about his experience on the bench, and the value of proper judicial temperament. Several in his audience echoed that he possessed the best of both.

“I find his decisions to be well analyzed, well reasoned and very thoughtful,” Norwich attorney Michael D. Ferrarese said.
