NORWICH - Ward 5 Alderman Joseph Maiurano will serve the rest of the year as the city’s interim leader following the death of Mayor Robert C. Raphael on May 29. Maiurano was appointed to the position by his fellow aldermen at Thursday’s Common Council work session. The decision, however, was not unanimous.
“I know that there are other people interested in this position, and I think that we should table this decision for 30 days so that we can bring other people forth,” said Ward 1 Alderman A. Anthony Abraham, who also claimed that council members did not have adequate time to consider their decision. “I just got this agenda 10 minutes ago,” he said.
