Oxford Memorial Library Celebrates Spring With Public Programs
Published: May 9th, 2024

OXFORD — The Oxford Memorial Library has “sprung” into action for spring! We would like to invite everyone to join us for the following programs at the library in our spacious community room. As you can see we have something for everyone! For information on any of these programs or any of our other services call us at 607-843-6146.

Solitude Farmz will be visiting the Oxford Memorial Library on Saturday, May 11 at 10 a.m. to share their experience and knowledge of monarch butterflies. Join us for their presentation about the raising, releasing, and tagging of monarch butterflies. At a time when the population of these beautiful butterflies has declined by 90 percent, it is extremely important to learn about the stewardship practices Solitude Farmz has developed and uses. This program is open to all ages and everyone is encouraged to come!

Solitude Farmz is a Monarch Waystation certified by the Monarch Watch organization. Monarch Waystations have to meet specific criteria by providing things such as native milkweeds, nectar plants, and shelter for monarch butterflies. If you are interested in visiting this Monarch Waystation yourself, Solitude Farmz is a five-star rated Airbnb host.

Need to de-stress? Miss the fun freedom of coloring as a child? Want to do something creative? If any of these apply to you, then we think you would love our Adult Coloring Night at the Oxford Memorial Library!

Studies have found that coloring reduces anxiety, reduces stress, improves brain function, and more. Coloring is also a lot of fun and shouldn’t be just for kids. Come to the Oxford Memorial Library on Wednesday, May 15 at 5:30 p.m. to relax and have some fun. We will provide coloring sheets, colored pencils, markers, crayons, and light refreshments. If you have an adult coloring book at home or a favorite set of markers, feel free to bring them. This is an adult program for ages 16 and older.

Family Game Night is the third Thursday each month at the Oxford Memorial Library. Bring the family or some friends to have fun playing a variety of board games at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16. You can bring your favorite game from home or play one from our collection. Some players bring really interesting games for everyone to play and it is a great way to spend a Thursday evening.

The Oxford Memorial Library is hosting a Plant and Seed Swap on Saturday May 25 at 10 a.m. Bring house plants, perennials, and seeds to swap. All plants and seeds are welcome, but must be in appropriate containers and labeled.

Most of us have something growing in our garden that needs to be thinned out, or way too many propagations from our houseplants. The Plant and Seed Swap is the perfect place to trade plants and make new gardening friends. There will also be a giveaway open to all attendees for a handmade macramé plant hanger.

The Oxford Memorial Library is your home town community center for information and entertainment. A great place to meet old and new friends and neighbors.
